The importance of career management

“The best way to predict the future is to create it” President Abraham Lincoln.

A good career plan is extremely important for any athlete, whether it is for a professional or a young talent. At Ozamba Sports, our football consultants will not only guide our athletes during their journey, but also share their experience of what it takes to be successful.

We believe that everything starts with a good education. A 13 or 14 years old teenager who aspires to become a professional football player needs to be mentored, as technical, physical and mental skills have to be developed. The Ozamba Academy is the department in charge of the next-generation of athletes  led by Aymar Moro Mve, the Head of Football Youth Department at Ozamba Sports. He pointed to the importance for these young players to be prepared for the world of  professional football, which awaits at the end of their formation period.  “The difference between a player who has assistance and the other lies in the consistency of the work.  To be able to produce and to repeat high standards of  performance on a regular basis is key. Nowadays, most of the young players are not very resistant to the effort. So, with my tailored training program, I introduce the professional world to them and train these kids to have the habit of continuous learning.

We show them the importance of being dedicated to their professional project on a daily basis to get the outcomes they want. Should they not become professional players, they will be able to apply this mindset to another job” We also put emphasis on women’s soccer and understand that there are important differences when working with women and men. Our consultant Joy Wu explains what goes  far beyond the pay gap. “For the women’s market, the players have different timings and needs, making it an unique market that still has a lot to develop, but has huge potential. For a long time they have been alone, so now more than ever, the sharing of clear information and the fast changing of environments, is key to building strong relationships based on trust. Being a woman who also lived in this football world makes it easier to communicate with the players and make them develop not only in the field, but also help them understand their power and influence to change and improve this environment, which will benefit all women players.”

Career management needs to cover different areas of an athlete’s life so that he or she will not fall into traps. We therefore  think of an athlete as a holistic person. As a former football player and currently consultant, Flávio Colasanti explains the different aspects of life that an athlete may need assistance in. “We are here to help athletes in sectors that they don’t have any knowledge about. The services we offer are first of all listening to the wishes of the player, such as ambitions and the countries where they would like to play. But this world is not only about football consulting, but also about legal, nutritional and physical consulting. A career is short so we also have to plan their next steps and smooth their transition to a new world”

Africa youth creative: Cultural and creative industries: a great opportunity for the African continent https://ozamba-sports.com/en/2023/12/26/africa-youth-creative-cultural-and-creative-industries-a-great-opportunity-for-the-african-continent/ Tue, 26 Dec 2023 14:09:22 +0000 https://ozamba-sports.com/?p=5346

Africa youth creative:

Cultural and creative industries: a great opportunity for the African continent

One of the key objectives of Ozamba is to create and support projects aimed at the development of the African continent. Africa is the youngest continent in the world and this increases the possibilities of social and economic growth for the next decades.

An excellent way to reach this young population is through sport and culture. Both have benefits well-recognized that promote universal values such as respect and solidarity, and are used as a factor of social cohesion and integration.

A 2017 study showed that only 2 million jobs related to the cultural and creative industries were created across the continent, which represents 1.1% of Africa’s GDP. In other words, there is still a lot that can be done. The creative economy is one of the sectors with the strongest growth in the world. There are numerous possibilities, such as film-making, cinema, video games development, among others. These opportunities will give to the next generation a model that matches their ambitions and allows them to develop and export African culture. With the collaboration of the entire continent, this culture has a lot to offer to the world.

It is with all this in mind that Ozamba has decided to expand its area of expertise and launch Ozamba Creative.

Our aim is to use our network and knowledge acquired to expand the scope of possibilities on the African continent. Ozamba Creative is a global communication agency that supports its clients by strategically propelling their ideas into tangible accomplishments. In the cultural and creative industry , the agency wants to increase the income generated by cultural creation, as well as facilitate the promotion and the access to culture while fighting against social inequalities.

Did you know that?

Did you know that the largest football stadium in the world is the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea? ⚽ 🏟

It has a seating capacity of approximately 114,000 spectators and it’s known for hosting various national and international matches.

The stadium design is visually striking, featuring a unique shape resembling a magnolia blossom or a parachute. The roof is supported by 16 arches, creating an impressive acoustics and an immersive atmosphere during the matches.

It is named after a very significant celebration in Korea, the International Workers’ Day, celebrated on May 1st, and signifies the country’s emphasis on labor and socialist values.

Why is ESG crucial these days? https://ozamba-sports.com/en/2023/11/28/why-is-esg-crucial-these-days/ Tue, 28 Nov 2023 16:04:33 +0000 https://ozamba-sports.com/?p=5592

Why is ESG crucial these days?

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) is a policy adopted by companies that aims to promote the social well-being of employees and customers.

In the last 30 years, ESG has entered the business agenda as a way to meet the demands of the modern consumer, who is increasingly concerned about how companies can help solve social problems. It has become a central issue in the strategic decision-making of organizations. As a result, football clubs have not escaped this trend.

ESG is a way for clubs to reconnect with their home regions. This is what has been happening with some clubs in the French Ligue 1 . The biggest clubs of European football have financial resources that allow them to attract fans from all around the world. They get the attention mainly from young people who have started to follow Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo on their cell phone screens. This has a worrying effect for the future of small clubs: young people have a tendency to support big (household) teams, usually foreign, before even thinking about the club from their city. Clubs find themselves with an aging fan base and finding it difficult to attract new fans. This is when ESG policy comes in as a way to reconnect clubs with their local population.

When football clubs show concern for their community it is easier to attract fans’ attention. The French club Le Havre AC has started to adopt social insertion policies to position itself as a popular and youth-focused club. The actions aim to develop a sense of belonging to the club and the city. In Le Havre, young people from the training center also participate in workshops and professional insertion ateliers. Another example comes from Reims. In the last years, the club has developed anti-discrimination policies, recycling campaigns, and even blood donations for the local hospital.

For clubs that are already relevant in their home area, the ESG can help strengthen an internationalization strategy. Arsenal FC, for example, has worked with the charity Save the Children to improve living conditions in refugee camps in the Middle East. Manchester United has also used its fan groups in India to help flood victims in the Kerala area. There are several strategies that can be developed according to the history and moment of each club.

Social policies can also help increase the club’s revenue. By impacting different communities surrounding a sports institution, the club can conquer new supporters and thus sell more official products. This kind of positioning can also attract new sponsors that share the same values and purposes. Adopting authentic social responsibility policies that make sense for the club is a great way to communicate and strengthen the brand. This seems to be a path for companies and also for sports institutions.

How the basketball African league will shake up the continent https://ozamba-sports.com/en/2023/11/27/how-the-basketball-african-league-will-shake-up-the-continent/ Mon, 27 Nov 2023 15:43:28 +0000 https://ozamba-sports.com/?p=5531

How the basketball African league will shake up the continent

The first Basketball Africa League (BAL) will debut on May 16th as the first NBA’s collaboration to operate a league outside North America. Twelve teams across Africa will play 26 games at Kigali Arena in Rwanda.

One of the BAL’s goals is to use basketball as a tool for economic growth across the continent. By doing so, it will undoubtedly expand the popularity of basketball in Africa. The league aims to  inspire a new generation of fans and transform African countries into influential sports hubs. This launch is a way to develop local athletes instead of just exporting them.

As a reminder, there were 13 African born players on the NBA teams in the 2018/19 season. The number would increase to 40 if we include players with African parents. Africa is the world’s youngest continent and thinking about the youth is also thinking about future development and fostering opportunities. It is about building up the next generation of talents on and off court. Sports, in general, have a transformative way of educating, empowering and inspiring.

The competition will attract the attention of companies which are interested in becoming part of something bigger. More investments will be needed, either for building adequate infrastructures, training athletes and for nurturing the next generation of the sports industry leaders in Africa.

More than that, it will attract the attention of companies that are interested in becoming part of this movement. More investments will be needed, either for the arena’s infrastructure, or for training athletes, coaches and referees. It will also create jobs across the countries and an economic system that will bring long-term benefits to the continent.

Africa is the world’s youngest continent and thinking about the youth is also thinking about great opportunities. Sports, in general, have a transformative power to inspire, empower and educate the next generation. The African league will also help to expand the popularity of the sport on the continent and by doing so, build up new talents on the court and in the sports industry. There are countless opportunities for the continent to bloom and shine as a global basketball benchmark.

The next era for sports broadcasting https://ozamba-sports.com/en/2023/10/10/the-next-era-for-sports-broadcasting/ Tue, 10 Oct 2023 15:06:44 +0000 https://ozamba-sports.com/?p=5462

The next era for sports broadcasting

Change is constant. If you are a football fan, you already know that Amazon obtained the rights to broadcast 80% of the French Ligue 1 matches until 2024. Amazon’s decision to start streaming live games is not only happening in France.

In Brazil, Amazon Prime will broadcast more than a thousand games, including the Brazilian Championship, the Brazilian National Cup and others. These changes raise a question: what can we expect in the coming years in terms of live sports coverage?

The changing behavior of new generations has forced the industry to create new forms of engagement for sports fans. According to a Facebook survey, 86% of sports fans use their mobile phones while watching TV. It is therefore necessary to create a multiplatform content strategy.

This scenario enables the entry of different companies as sports broadcasting tools. Today, there are the league’s own television, such as Conmebol TV, large companies that already had streaming services (Amazon, DAZN), and social media that also already have the expertise to broadcast live content to millions of users (Facebook, TikTok, Twitch).

Another example happened in Spain. Kosmos, the company of the FC Barcelona football player, Gerard Piqué, bought the rights to broadcast French Ligue 1 in Spain. The corporation had already bought the TV rights of the last Copa América to broadcast the competition on Twitch.

Change in the way sports content is consumed increases the commercial possibilities for sports marketers. The possibilities are countless. Just as television revolutionized the way of watching football – many even believed it would be the end of the audience in the stadiums – the same happens with these new streaming channels.

AI and Game Analysis https://ozamba-sports.com/en/2023/07/11/ai-and-game-analysis/ Tue, 11 Jul 2023 10:14:20 +0000 https://ozamba-sports.com/?p=5096

AI and Game Analysis

We are currently witnessing a groundbreaking transformation in the sports industry with the integration of Artificial Intelligence in game analysis.

With advanced algorithms, vast amounts of data and patterns, it is easier to provide a deeper understanding of players’ performances, tactics and game dynamics.

This cutting-edge technology has the potential to rewrite important roles in the field and reshape traditional coaches methods. Coaches can now fine tune their strategies, optimize player development and gain a competitive edge to elevate their coaching effectiveness.

But in the long-term, could this AI’s ability make the coaches obsolete and unrequired or do you think a human perspective will always be needed?
